Q1: What type of wading boot sole is best for me?
As a general rule, cleated/rubber soles suit general use on sand, mud and shingle. Felt soles are excellent for use on rock and concrete, and steel or tungsten studs can offer even greater grip. We also offer a rubber/steel spike sole in our Rockhopper boots which offer incredible grip on weedy rocks and that found on the UK coastline.
It is important to note that many countries have banned the use of felt soles, so cleated/rubber soles may be the only option available. Again, in many cases studs can be carefully added to the sole provided there is enough depth in the material, to improve grip on slippy freestone surfaces. Studded or spike soles should not be worn on boats or finished surfaces.

Q2: Can I screw studs into any type of sole?
It is possible to add our screw-in wader studs to soles, though care is needed. Fit studs to the heel section only where possible and if studs are needed in the sole, avoid the weight-bearing area under the ball of the foot to reduce the risk of a puncture or discomfort.
Q3: What size waders should I buy, and are they available for men and women?
Snowbee offers one of the widest wader size ranges in the UK, including dedicated King Size options around 15% larger through the body for a fuller fit. Check our full size chart before ordering. We always recommend going one size up from your normal shoe size when ordering stockingfoot boots.
Q4: What's the best wader material for me?
It depends on budget and conditions. PVC waders are lightweight and budget-friendly. Nylon waders are tougher and more abrasion-resistant. Neoprene waders insulate best in cold water. Breathable waders offer the most day-to-day comfort, but come with a larger price tag.
Q5: How do I extend the life of my waders?
Hang waders up to dry after use, ideally upside-down on a wader rack, to prevent creasing that can lead to chafing. Keep them out of direct sunlight, and rinse thoroughly with fresh water after saltwater use.
Q6: How do I find and repair a leak in my waders?
Dry the waders, hang them up and fill them with water to spot a leak - mark it, then empty them. A simple cut can be patched with the repair kit; seam leaks are best fixed with a liquid patch product. See our repair kits and adhesives.
Q7: Can I replace the felt soles on my wading boots, and how do I look after them?
Yes, our felt-sole replacement kits fit Snowbee boots and can be trimmed for other brands. Hose felt soles down with fresh water after every trip to stop mud packing in and wearing them out early. Browse repair kits and adhesives.
Q8: What's the difference between stockingfoot and bootfoot waders?
Bootfoot waders have the boot built in, often made from a PVC, so there's nothing extra to buy or forget. They are a quicker option for occasional use or boat fishing, or if you struggle with mobility.
Stockingfoot waders are finished with a neoprene sock and are worn with a separate pair of wading boots over the top. Boots offer far greater ankle support and sole choice depending on where you are fishing, and depending on the boot selected are more comfortable.
Q9: What's the difference between chest, waist and thigh waders?
Chest waders cover you up to the chest – an inch or so under the armpits – for staying dry when deep wading and allowing you to cover as much water as your height allows. Waist waders sit around the belt line and are a cooler option for shallower wading in rivers or when bank fishing. Thigh waders are like long wellies and attach to a belt and finish at the groin when fit properly, and are a great option for hot, summer days.
See our Thigh Waders range if you don't need chest-height coverage.
