2008 sees the return of another famous Snowbee Brand. The original Prestige fly rods were built in the UK on Harrison Blanks, way back in 1997. The latest models share the same name and the same pedigree, with Steve Harrison once again involved in their design, bringing fly rod design right into the 21st century.
The new 6 and 4-piece Prestige travel rods represent the top of the range for Snowbee and with so many destinations now being visited and fished with the fly, we decided it was high time we produced a rod range suitable for the Snowbee travelling fly fisher. In designing the new Snowbee rods the specification was simple, build the best quality rods we could, making no compromise on any of the materials or design requirements and going better than the Diamond Series by adding the expertise of a top designer like Steve Harrison to help us achieve our stretched objectives.
The use of the very latest and lightest 50T carbon blanks, provides an unbelievably light, effortless, crisp action. Tip recovery is almost instantaneous allowing precision casting with the finest of leaders. Powerful butt sections provide huge reserves of power for distance casting and taming the hardest fighting fish. At 6-pieces, the travel rods are still very lightweight and smuggle into the smallest suitcase or travel bag, so that no destination need be visited without one to hand.
In common with the original Prestige fly rods, this new range has a deep, rich Burgundy colour blank, with subtle matching whippings. Fitted with top quality PacBay nickel silver reel seats with genuine Cocobolo wood inserts, these quality rods more than live up to their ‘Prestige’ name.
Each rod comes in a deep claret, blended cotton drill rod bag and then for total protection when travelling, a quality, lightweight aluminium tube. The matt burgundy finish is complemented by the satin gold anodised end caps and screen printed in matching gold to complete the Prestige finish. This is where it all started, back in 1994! The very first Snowbee Fly Rods, all those years ago were the ‘Diamond Fly’, which had a loyal following amongst fly fishers. Our new range for 2008 brings back everything that was good about those early rods in terms of quality and reliability, but incorporates the latest thinking in fly rod design and material technology.
The Diamond Series represents exceptional value, starting at below £100. They compete on performance with many of the best rods on the market, but at an infinitely better price. Using the best quality materials we could find, we spared nothing in producing the best looking, best fishing 3-piece fly rods we could achieve. Apart from the appearance and number of sections there is little to choose between these and other rods of a much higher price.
After the initial design, every rod was individually ‘tweaked’ and adjusted as necessary to achieve the ultimate in casting and fish playing performance, for the particular application for which it was designed. With 11 rods in the series, there is a rod to match every fishing situation.
To finish the rods to the ‘Diamond’ standard we set ourselves, the fast action 3-pce blanks, are finished in a lustrous deep olive colour, which was chosen to best represent the most natural colour for the bank-side environment in which they would be used. Classic matching whippings and a quality, brushed aluminium reel seat with real Burl wood insert, dyed to compliment the blank colour, complete the classy look of these rods.
With oversize ‘Sic’ lined stripper rings, hard chrome, high lift snakes and oversize hayfork tip ring for maximum line speed, the overall finish simply oozes casting performance.
